There's something magical about fall in New Orleans. The air gets a little lighter, the evenings a little cooler, and the city buzzes with festivals, parades, and cultural celebrations. From food and music to film and light shows, autumn is when the Crescent City truly shows off its vibrant spirit. Whether you’re a local looking for weekend plans or a visitor hoping to experience New Orleans beyond Mardi Gras, here are the top events to put on your calendar this season, including a few of agents' top picks! From neighborhood festivals to citywide traditions, these are the experiences they say you won't want to miss this year.

🎶 Festivals & City Highlights

NOLA Coffee Festival (Oct 3–4, Pontchartrain Convention & Civic Center)

Fall mornings feel a little better with a fresh brew in hand. At the NOLA Coffee Festival, you’ll sip your way through roasters and blends from across the Gulf South, catch live demos, and maybe even learn how to pour the perfect latte art. It’s equal parts educational and energizing — a perfect kickoff to festival season.

Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival (Oct 10–12, Lafayette Square Park)

Cool weather calls for smoky BBQ and soulful blues. This free festival in the heart of downtown combines the best pitmasters with legendary local and national performers. Pack a lawn chair, settle under the oaks, and let the sweet sounds (and smells) carry you into the weekend.

West Bank Hispanic Heritage Festival (Oct 18, University of Holy Cross)

Celebrate culture, community, and connection at the West Bank Hispanic Heritage Festival, hosted by the University of Holy Cross. This family-friendly event highlights the rich traditions and last contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in New Orleans. Enjoy live music, dance performances, cultural showcases, and artisan vendors. This event is free and open to the public!

Tremé Fall Festival (Oct 25, Tremé neighborhood)

Held in one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods, the Tremé Fall Festival celebrates the soul of New Orleans. From brass bands and second lines to food stalls and art vendors, it’s a chance to enjoy authentic community culture while supporting the preservation of St. Augustine Church.

Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival (Nov 8–9, Armstrong Park)

Nothing says comfort food quite like gumbo. This beloved festival stirs together Creole flavors, live jazz, and neighborhood pride — all under the shade of Armstrong Park. Admission is free, but come hungry.

Beignet Fest (Nov 15, City Park Festival Grounds)

Beignets aren’t just for breakfast anymore. At Beignet Fest, chefs get creative with both sweet and savory takes on this powdered-sugar classic. Think praline, crab-stuffed, and fried chicken beignets — all served alongside a lineup of local musicians.

Oak Street Po-Boy Festival (Nov 16, Oak Street)

New Orleans’ favorite sandwich takes center stage at this annual street festival. Dozens of vendors serve their best po-boys — shrimp, roast beef, oyster, and even vegan twists — while live bands keep the crowds moving. It’s a neighborhood block party on steroids.

LUNA Fête (Nov 13–16, downtown)

End your festival circuit with a little magic. LUNA Fête transforms downtown into a canvas of light and art through projection mapping, interactive installations, and illuminated sculptures. It’s family-friendly, free, and one of the most visually stunning events of the year.

New Orleans Film Festival (Oct 23 – Nov 2, multiple venues)

Cinephiles won’t want to miss this Oscar-qualifying festival, where independent filmmakers from around the globe share their stories. Screenings, panels, and red-carpet events bring a touch of Hollywood to the Big Easy.

Costumed floats, spooky throws, and a Halloween parade you’ll never forget.

Bayou Bacchanal (Oct 31–Nov 1)

New Orleans’ original Caribbean Carnival, packed with music, dance, and delicious food.
